Ferrari is set to return the evocative GTO (Gran Turismo Omolagato) name to its lineup on a limited-edition, two-seat version of the F599 Fiorano GTB. The new car, conceived to run bodywork and mechanical components from the Italian carmaker's race-bound 599XX, is expected to make its public debut at the Paris motor show in September--marking the first time the GTO badge has been applied to one of Ferrari's road cars since the launch of the much-revered 288 GTO in 1984. Among the changes brought to the new car is a series of carbon-fiber exterior panels, a stripped-out interior and specially developed alloy wheels--all aimed at lowering the weight by 132 pounds from the 3,718 pounds of the F599 Fiorano GTB.
That’s because the BAC Mono is not just a stunning car to drive with its 2.3 litre 4-cylinder Cosworth engine delivering 280bhp in a car that weighs so little it gets a power to weight ratio of 520bhp per tonne, and can get to 62mph in a scant 2.8 seconds, and comes with a great spec. The Mono is built using carbon fibre composite wrapped round a steel safety cell, an FIA compliant steel rollover structure, an F3-spec 6-speed sequential ‘box, pushrod suspension, racing damping, AP brakes and special tryes from Khumo. And it’s properly bolted together too, unlike many track-focused cars.

The Kia Soul is almost the personification of a car designed for a purpose, looking more like a van for passengers than a family car. And that isn’t going to change much with the 2014 Kia Soul, but this time the Soul gets based on the latest Cee’d and grows in size, so it should be a more appealing drive. With more modern car underpinnings, the new Soul should ride better and be more dynamic, with better suspension and a stiffer body shell making the Soul a very practical family car, but one which at least offers a little joy in the drive.
